Da Google al sogno europeo
L’ennesima favola calcistica di provincia potrebbe realizzarsi sabato allo stadio Re Baldovino di Bruxelles, teatro della finale di coppa di Belgio. Protagonista il Kortrijk, piccolo club fiammingo a cui rimane un solo ostacolo da superare, il Lokeren, per vincere il primo trofeo della sua storia e regalarsi un’inedita avventura europea. Scenari impensabili solamente una decina di anni fa, quando la squadra vivacchiava in Derde Klasse, la C belga. Poi l’ascesa a piani alti, a dispetto di un budget sempre ridotto all’osso.
Per rendere l’idea di cosa significhi fare calcio a Kortrijk, bisogna tornare alla stagione 07/08. A pochi giorni dall’inizio del campionato, il tecnico Hein Vanhaezebrouck aveva perso un elemento chiave per il suo 3-4-3. Soldi per cercare un sostituto non ce n’erano. Una sera, digitando la parola “linkeraanvaller” (attaccante sinistro) su Google, si imbatte in un certo Istvan Bakx, che aveva fatto furore in un torneo di dilettanti in Olanda. Lo contatta, gli offre un provino e decide di ingaggiarlo. I gol di Bakx (oggi al Willem II, B olandese) saranno fondamentali per la promozione del Kortrijk in Jupiler Pro League. I media lo chiamano “Google-spits”, l’attaccante di Google.
Nel 2009 la città degli speroni d’oro (così chiamata in un onore della battaglia che nel 1302 oppose il Re di Francia alle città fiamminghe insorte) festeggia la salvezza del Kortrijk all’ultima giornata. Ma i miracoli non sono finiti. Vanhaezebrouck passa al Genk lasciando il testimone a George Leekens, il cui quinto posto finale lo manderà dritto sulla panchina della nazionale belga. Al Guldensporen Stadion torna così il vecchio allenatore, ma in questo caso la minestra riscaldata è ancora buona.
Non meno importante di Vanhaezebrouck nella costruzione di una squadra competitiva a costo zero (quest’anno il prospetto più interessante è l’under 21 francese Steven Joseph-Monrose, ala destra classe 90) è il direttore finanziario del club, Matthias Leterme, 26enne figlio dell’ex primo ministro del paese, quello che rimase ad interim alla guida del paese per oltre 20 mesi. Due anni fa il giovane Leterme, fresco di laurea, è entrato nei ranghi del Kortrijk, sollevando non poche perplessità. Senza una robusta raccomandazione alle spalle, si chiedevano i media, quale club affiderebbe la gestione delle proprie finanze (6.5 milioni di euro il budget complessivo) a un giovane senza esperienza? La risposta è arrivata sul campo.

50 gol potrebbero non bastare
pensare che c’era chi lo faceva giocare in fascia. Misteri di un certo calcio e di certi allenatori (?!). Klaas-Jan Huntelaar non è mai stato nient’altro che una prima punta. Di quelle che non rapiscono l’occhio e nemmeno risultano granché utili alla squadra se non infilano la palla in rete. Lui lo fa spesso, basta metterlo in campo nella giusta posizione.

Gone with De Windt
In un recente post abbiamo trattato il caso di Ouasim Bouy, giovane talento dello Jong Ajax trasferitosi alla Juventus senza aver mai giocato un solo minuto nella prima squadra degli ajacidi. Bouy non è il primo ragazzo a percorrere, con esperienza zero, la tratta Amsterdam-Torino. Non molti in Italia si ricordano di Sergio de Windt, terzino sinistro del vivaio dell’Ajax che nell’estate del 2000 lasciò il settore giovanile del club per firmare un remunerativo quinquennale con la Juventus. L’aggancio avvenne tramite Robert Geerlings, avvocato di Edgar Davids (all’epoca in bianconero) e amico dell’agente di De Windt. Dopo 9 anni in una delle scuole calcio più prestigiose al mondo, il ragazzino cresciuto nei quartieri di Amsterdam Est decideva che era giunto il momento di forzare il proprio ingresso nel grande calcio. Con tanti saluti a Co Adriaanse, l’allora direttore generale del vivaio ajacide che gli aveva pronosticato un imminente futuro da titolare nell’Ajax.
De Windt sbarca a Torino indossando un elegante completo di Armani, che si è regalato per festeggiare il trasferimento. Quando all’età di 17 anni, ammetterà anni dopo il diretto interessato, passi da una manciata di fiorini nel portafoglio a un contro in banca con cifre a quattro zeri – più sette (!) carte di credito, le prospettive cambiano. Al primo raduno della Juventus i giocatori sono 40. Dopo le presentazioni con i vari Del Piero, Davids e Zidane, si comincia a lavorare. De Windt sgobba, meritandosi anche un pubblico elogio del tecnico Carlo Ancelotti. Alla sera però, nel suo appartamento a Torino, è solo. La madre, che deve crescere da sola la sua sorellina, non ha tempo per venire in Italia. Il suo agente si fa sentire solo per telefono, mentre il connazionale Davids è alle prese con l’affare nandrolone. A fine stagione il ginocchio fa crack: De Windt sceglie di tornare in Olanda per la convalescenza.
Quando torna a Torino, al posto di Ancelotti c’è Marcello Lippi. L’obiettivo è uno solo: vincere. Il tecnico non ha certo tempo da dedicare a un ragazzino olandese ancora acerbo, nonché in fase di recupero da un infortunio. Il massimo che gli viene concesso è qualche riscaldamento a bordo campo durante le partite, ma niente di più. I numeri De Windt inizia farli fuori dal campo, adottando un tenore di vita talmente al di sopra delle proprie possibilità da venire rimproverato anche da un dirigente dei bianconeri. La magia svanisce presto. A metà della sua seconda stagione a Torino, il giovane torna in Olanda. Fa un paio di provini con Haarlem e Rkc Waalwijk, ma il primo a non essere convinto è lui. La voglia di giocare a calcio si è spenta. Meglio quindi volgere il proprio sguardo altrove. A 21 anni De Windt è già un ex professionista. Lo stipendio se lo guadagna in un call center della compagnia telefonica KPN. Gioca a calcio saltuariamente, e solo a livello amatoriale: Huizen, Argon, Rijnsburgse Boys e, attualmente, CSW.
Nell’agosto 2000 il ct dell’Olanda under 18 Mark Wotte aveva diramato le convocazioni per un torneo che avrebbe avuto luogo il mese successivo nell’allora Jugoslavia. C’erano Johnny Heitinga, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, Joris Mathijsen, Serginho Greene. C’era anche Sergio de Windt. L’unico della rosa che giocava all’estero.

Sensational John Guidetti firing Feyenoord forward
John Guidetti is currently the most outstanding player in Holland’s Eredivisie – of that there can be no doubt. With 18 goals in 17 games, the Swedish striker is dragging Feyenoord back into the Dutch elite after years of disappointing performances. Guidetti, on loan in Rotterdam from Manchester City, has impressed with his ability to blend physical toughness, fine technique, a hard-working attitude and cold-blooded composure in front of goal. What makes the 19-year-old’s rise all the more astonishing is that before joining Feyenoord, Guidetti had played only 15 official matches in four seasons – now he has taken Holland by storm. Kenya
Mike Guidetti, John’s father, has worked for years in Kenya with a Swedish school project in Nairobi, and his son – born in Stockholm on 15th April, 1992 – spent part of his childhood in the African country. “That period was very important for my development, both on and off the pitch”, said John Guidetti. “I played football barefoot in the slum areas of Nairobi and I came into contact with local people and their culture. I still have a strong link with Kenya and every time I go back there I always get a warm welcome.” The striker’s family own a football club in the country: Blackstars Kibera. “Football is only a starting point for us as we want to build a school and hospital close to the training complex of the club. It is a project with many purposes.”
Italy
John Guidetti’s granddad hailed from Italy. And there was, until recently, always the possibility that the budding forward could be snapped up by the Azzurri, watched closely as he was by Italy coach Cesare Prandelli. Sweden boss Erik Hamren stated he was “incredibly impressed by Guidetti” though and the Manchester City man made his debut in a friendly against Croatia on 29th February. For Sweden, capping Guidetti was a relief, with the forward admitting he had taken a keen interest in the Azzurri. “I decided I wanted to become a professional footballer when I was six, watching Italy at the 1998 World Cup in France. I didn’t support Sweden, they were irrelevant to me. My idols were Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri. Since that summer, I started to focus on football.”
Brommapojkarna
Guidetti has played twice for the Stockholm-based Bromma side, a club famed for their youth academy. After making his debut in 2008 with the first team in Sweden’s second tier, the Superettan, he came back on loan from Manchester City for the 2010 campaign – this time in the country’s top flight. Guidetti made his Allsvenskan debut against Trelleborg and had an instant impact, providing an assist for the winning goal in the dying minutes. His outstanding contribution led to a starting spot in the club’s next game against Gefle, and he did not disappoint, grabbing a goal and laying on another. His loan spell ended with three goals and four assists in eight games played.
Manchester City
The budding forward was brought to Manchester City at the age of 15 by Sven-Goran Eriksson. After he had proved his worth both with the Citizens’ Under-18s and reserve team, Robert Mancini handed Guidetti his first team chance in the League Cup against West Bromwich Albion. The Swede provided an assist for City’s only goal. In the summer of 2011, Guidetti inked a three-year extension to his deal at Eastlands and was then loaned to Feyenoord for the 2011/12 season. “I don’t know what pressure means”, said Guidetti. “Pressure is my drug. However, my desire was to play a season as a regular. It was something that was impossible at City. I have no fear about competing for a place in the starting eleven, but in pre-season City gave me the number 60 shirt. That meant there were 50 players between me and the pitch. It would have been an unfair race.”
Burnley
A one month loan with Championship outfit Burnley gave Guidetti the chance to score his first official goal in England. He did it on 26th December, 2010, against Barnsley. After five games, Manchester City recalled the forward.

Against Vitesse on 12th February, Guidetti scored his third hat-trick in a row in De Kuip, becoming the second player in Eredivisie history, after Ajax forward Cees Groot, to find the back of the net three times in three consecutive home games. And this at just 19 years old. Only three players were younger when they collected their first hat-trick in Holland’s top flight: Johan CruYff, Marco van Basten and Wim Kieft. Meanwhile, the last Feyenoord man to score three hat-tricks in a season was Dirk Kuyt in 2004/05.

Guidetti’s superb performance inspired Feyenoord’s supporters to launch an online petition to keep the striker at De Kuip for another season. So far more than 30,000 people have signed it.

Guidetti’s goals are rarely spectacular – close range tap-ins, one-on-ones against the goalkeeper, crosses deflected into the net via a shoulder, penalty kicks (six out of 18 goals scored). However, the Swede’s ruthlessness in front of goal makes him a “youthful phenomenon”, according to coach Ronald Koeman. At the time of writing, Guidetti is the second most efficient Eredivisie striker, with an average goal per minute ratio of 71.61, due to 18 goals in 1289 minutes played. Only Ajax forward Dmitriy Bulykin (goal average of 64.75) is better. The Russian however has played just 518 minutes of football, scoring eight times.

Former Italian player Salvatore Bagni has described Guidetti as a walking mountain. “But he knows how to strike the ball too”, said Bagni. “When I was a transfer advisor for Bologna, I tried to bring Guidetti to Italy. From the first time I saw him, I was deeply impressed by his physical strength blended with fine techique and speed. His composure in front of goal was amazing too. In my opinion he was perfect for a tactical but also physical league like Serie A. However, his price was too high.”
Behaviour
Latin blood runs through Guidetti’s veins. “I have a hot temperament and I can’t stand losing”, said the striker. “When I played with Brommapojkarna’s youth team, I had a lot of discussions with coaches and referees. My team-mates called me “the special one” because I always gave 110%. And I always played to win, against every opponent. I like to make jokes in the dressing room too. Some at Feyenoord have said ‘John, you are crazy’. Let me be a little crazy. If you want to make it to the top you must be a bit mad. Just look at the top players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic or Mario Balotelli. They are indeed not ordinary guys.”

Guidetti has his own foundation to help the poor. “A word is enough to describe the current situation in Kenya – chaos. I saw fishermen trying to steal each other’s fishing nets. One of my former team-mates worked in a factory from five in the morning until seven at night for 25 eurocents per hour. And I can’t forget a talented kid who played for a club owned by a French woman. A phenomenon. One day I asked a friend about him and his team – one of the toughest opponents I’ve ever played. He replied that most of the players had given up football to become gangsters. The phenomenon did too – and he was shot dead by the police.”

Toto Tamuz, Balotelli d'Israele
Israele aveva un campioncino in casa, ma non lo sapeva. Perché Toto Tamuz era un fantasma. Viveva da clandestino, aveva imparato a evitare gli agenti dell’immigrazione e, se le cose si fossero messe davvero male, avrebbe potuto ingannare chiunque sfoggiando un ebraico da 10 e lode. “Sono ospite della signora Orit Tamuz”, avrebbe detto. “Portatemi da lei e vi spiegherà tutto”. Lì, in un dopo-scuola, Toto incontra Orit Tamuz, direttore del marketing in un’azienda locale. La donna, nubile, decide di adottarlo. Illegalmente, perché manca il consenso dei genitori biologici. Ma i Temile sono tornati in Nigeria e sono all’oscuro di tutto.
Scuola, sinagoga, Kiddush al venerdì; Toto Tamuz cresce da ebreo al 100%. Gli manca solo la cittadinanza. Per ottenerla, lui e Orit dovranno intraprendere una lunga battaglia burocratica e legale (“perché tanta pena per adottare un negretto?”, è la domanda che una volta Orit si è sentita rivolgere da un funzionario statale). Il caso, dopo essere arrivato fino all’Alta Corte, si risolve positivamente nel giugno 2007. Toto Tamuz ha finalmente un passaporto, e Israele la sua stellina. Che debutta a 16 anni nella Ligat ha’Al tra le fila dell’Hapoel Petah Tikva con una doppietta. Segue un quadriennio prolifico nel Beitar Gerusalemme, prima del passaggio in una big quale l’Hapoel Tel Aviv. La scorsa stagione è capocannoniere del campionato con 21 reti, quest’anno è a quota 13 e reduce da un’ottima Europa League, competizione nella quale ha segnato a tutte le squadre incontrate: Vaduz, Ekranas, Legia Varsavia, Psv Eindhoven (doppietta) e Rapid Bucarest. Il suo presidente vorrebbe venderlo al Monaco, in Francia, ma lui non si vuol muovere. Tantopiù ora che il c.t. di Israele è Eli Guttmann, suo ex boss all'Hapoel. Inoltre ha riallacciato i rapporti con i genitori dopo anni di silenzio. “Ma la mia famiglia rimarrà sempre Orit Tamuz. Ciò che sono diventato lo devo esclusivamente a lei”.
